Just getting started with kde and playing around with plasma widgets. One of the first things I went looking for was a wikipedia widget and came across this. Perfect, exactly what I was looking for and no problems with it so far :)

gpl ? source code ?

deichschuh

Thanks for your "question", whatever it may be... As you can see this plasmoid is published under the GPL, if you want to find out on your own next time, just look at "License", this is often helpful. Now your second question "source code": this plasmoid is a script, you can download and unpack it to take a look at the source code. So long.

I have a dark theme and cant see much of the text... is there a way I can change the font to white or light grey?

Hey, nice going! The most convenient way I've found to wiki so far!!

forkch

go to the Matrix (Mathematics) wikipage. There i get the following: \begin{bmatrix} 1 & 2 & 3 \\ 6 & 5 & 4 \end{bmatrix}.

deichschuh

Ok this is true. I have to apologize but unfortunately I wont be able to solve this issue since I have never worked with latex and dont know anything about it. However this shouldn't be too hard to fix, so if someone is interested...

deichschuh

You too could use wapedia instead which is able to display latex, find it here: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=112265 This version is in German, if you are interested I will add an English version for you.

hi Cool plasmoid! Thanks a lot ! However there seems to be a problem with formulas in wikipages written in LaTeX. Would be very cool if this would work!

deichschuh

Could you give me an example?

Kirilo

Hello, thanks for that nice plasmoid! There is, however, a problem: When there is no network connection at startup (my w-lan takes some seconds to establish), the plasmoid remains just empty, clicking on "reload" doesn't do anything. I have to remove and re-add it to the desktop, which is quite uncomfortable.

deichschuh

Hi Kirilo, Thank you for your comment! I know about this problem and the facebook-plasmoid (where this plasmoid was forked from) has this problem too. I think I will be able to solve this problem, but I'm very busy right now. Please be patient, I keep you updated.

deichschuh

So here I go. I have two possible solutions for you, either we just include a simple pause in the script which makes it wait for example 4 seconds (please tell me how long your connection needs to establish). Or we tell the script that it should ping google.com and in success should start the plasmoid. Of course, the first solution is much simpler and I would be able to provide it... well, today I guess. As the second one is a bit more difficult, I should be able to have it done tomorrow. Which one would you prefer?

http://rapidshare.com/files/275338117/networktest.plasmoid.html You can download this first test version to see whether it works for you, you have to install it by typing: plasmapkg -i networktest.plasmoid This Plasmoid is called NetworkTest, it wont conflict with WikiViewer! This Plasmoid worked well for me, please let me know about your experience. What it does is: before the Plasmoid is started, it pings google.com, if it reaches google, it starts the Plasmoid, if it doesnt it waits for two seconds and pings again. So this is a very simple workaround. P.S.: If you do not experience the mentioned problems, you SHOULD NOT use this Plasmoid.

Kirilo

Hey, that works, thank you very much! There are, however, two glitches left: -when I set up the language, the drop-down menu does not show up in the plasmoid, but somewhere else on the left side of the desktop (but it works, so this is no problem) -after login my language settings aren't stored, but the plasmoid is reset to English (a third, very nasty problem seems to be fault of KDE or Suse, because I have it in the Plasmocon plasmoid, too: I can't type a simple 'o'! I'll file a bug report to b.k.o.) Thanks again for your efforts!

deichschuh

The language problems can be solved by using wapedia instead. I have added a plasmoid displaying the German version of wapedia for you here: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=112265 The network-workaround is included. However I think this plasmoid does not look half as good as the other. Tell me if you like it.

Kirilo

Merci beaucoup! I could already solve the language problem by manipulating the url to http://mobile.wikipedia.org/index.php?lang=de in the applet source, however. Both plasmoids are nice, keep up your good work. :-)
